Allegra D is an allergy medication that contains an antihistamine and decongestant used to treat the symptoms of allergic rhinitis (allergies) and seasonal hay fever as well as relieve other allergy symptoms such as itchy red eys, stuffy nose and throat irritation.

How Allegra-D Works
The allegra d tablet blocks histamine and provides allergy relief, which eases symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and watery eyes.

How Allegra-D is Taken
An allegra d tab is taken orally and can be taken with or without food, but should be taken on an empty stomach 1 hour before and two hours after a meal, usually twice daily. Taking an allegra d tablet with a high fat meal can decrease its effectiveness. Swallow the allegra d tab whole and do not crush or chew the extended-release allegra d tablet and follow the directions provided to you by your doctor. Do not take antacids containing aluminum and magnesium within 2 hours of taking this medication and do not take more than prescribed.

Do not take an allegra d tablet within 14 days after stoping a MAO Inhibitor (see medication interactions).

Possible Allegra-D Side Effects
The allegra d side affects are rare but may include any of the following: dry mouth, drowsiness, nausea, upset stomach, trouble sleeping, headache, or cold symptoms. If these persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly if you experience them or any other bothersome allegra d side affects. Do NOT take drug allegra d with orange, apple or grapefruit juice; otherwise the levels of this medicine in your blood may be decreased by 70%. Tell your doctor of your medical history including allergies, kidney, urinary problems, enlarged prostrate, glaucoma (narrow angle), severe high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, thyroid problems (hyperthyroid). Limit alcohol intake, as it may aggravate drug side effects. Caution is advised when drug allegra d is taken by the elderly since this group may be more sensitive to side effects.

Drug Interactions
Allegra d, which contains Fexofenadine should NOT be combined with cisapride (Propulsid). The risk of life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heart beat) have been reported. For further details before you buy allegra d, or experience drug interactions with this medicine, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Please also note that allegra d should not be combined with any of the following either: Alcohol or cocaine, caffeine, barbiturate medicines for inducing sleep or treating seizures (convultions). Erythromycin, furazolidone, ketoconazole, linezolid, MAO Inhibitor, mecamylamine as well as any of the following should also be avoided:

Medicines for anxiety or sleeping problems, such as diazepam or tamazepam. Medicines for colds and breathing difficulties. medicines for hay fever and other allergies such as antihistamines. Medicines for heart disease such as digoxin or beta-blockers. Medicines for mental depression (antidepressants). Medicines for migraine headaches such as ergot alkaloids. Medicines for nasal congestion such as pseudoephedrine. Medicines for pain such as opiate analgesics (i.e. codeine). Methyldopa, procarbazine, reserpine, sodium bicarbonate, sodium acetate, sodium citrate, or sodium lactate.

Missed Allegra-D Dose
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.

Allegra-D Storage
Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Keep drug allegra d in the container it came in, tightly closed and out of reach of children. Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.

Pregnancy & Nursing
If you plan to breast-feed, talk to your doctor about possible risks to your baby. If you are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant talk to your doctor about the benefits versus the risk of taking this medicine during pregnancy. Allegra-D should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy, so be sure to discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. The pseudoephedrine in this product is excreated in breast milk so consult your doctor before breast feeding.
