How Nexium Works
Nexium can be used as a cure for heartburn and is available in a delayed-release capsule. Nexium works by decreasing the amount acid made by your stomach.
How do I Get Rid of Heartburn?
To releive heartburn symptoms, nexium should be swallowed whole, not crushed, or chewed. Nexium is sometimes considered an aciphex substitute and the best time to take this medicine is at least 1 hour before a meal. If you cannot swallow the capsule, add one tablespoon of applesauce to an empty bowl, open one nexium capsule and carefully sprinkle the pellets onto the applesauce. Mix the pellets with the applesauce and swallow the entire tablespoon immediately. Do not chew the pellets in the applesauce and do not save the pellets and applesauce for another dose.
Nexium Side Effects
Tell your doctor if any of these heartburn symptoms are severe or do not go away: stomach pain, constipation, dry mouth, change in taste, headache, diarrhea, upset stomach or gas.

Nexium Storage
Store nexium at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any nexium that is outdated or no longer needed. Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children.
Pregnancy & Nursing
There have not been well-controlled studies using nexium or esomeprazole during pregnancy. Use only if clearly needed and if the benefit outweighs any potential risk. For nursing mothers, it is likely that esomeprazole is excreted in breast milk, so caution should be used in deciding whether to discontinue the drug or the breast-feeding.
