Prilosec is acid reflux treatment for stomach ulcer symptoms, gastric ulcers, acid reflux symptoms and duodenal ulcer symptoms. Prilosec can treat other symptoms of an ulcer where stomach acid is washed back up into the esophagus.

How Prilosec Works
Prilosec (Omeprazole) blocks the production of acid in your stomach and reduce the symptoms of an ulcer.

How to Take Prilosec
Prilosec or Omeprazole is available in delayed-release capsules and they should be swallowed whole, not opened, crushed, or chewed for acid reflux treatment and duodenal ulcer treatment. Preferred dosing time is immediately before a meal, usually in the morning.

Possible Side Effects
Some common side effects reported with this medicine include: back, leg, or abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, If you experience other bothersome side effects, contact your health care provider.

Warnings & Precautions
Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had liver disease when considering prilosec. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking omeprazole (prilosec), call your doctor. Tell your doctor if you use tobacco products. Cigarette smoking may decrease the effectiveness of this drug.

Prilosec Interactions
Talk to your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of the following: anticoagulants (blood thinners), benzodiazepines (e.g. diazepam; flurazepam; triazolam), phenytoin (Dilantin), clarithromycin (Biaxin). Tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially iron supplements or vitamins that contain iron.

Missed Dose
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.

Prilosec Storage
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom).

Pregnancy & Nursing
Talk to your doctor or pediatrician before using this medicine while nursing. Use during pregnancy should only occur if the potential benefits outweigh the possible risk to the fetus.
